I’m going to do three deliverables in 3 different variations. Since I missed the last 5% yesterday I”m going to try and bring in another variation of a fourth deliverable to make up some work! BAM!

[1] my 3 campaign posters - taking one and doing 3 variations of it then the other two will follow.

[2] my double sided cards that show the USA team with quotes and facts about each person - doing 3 variations to one card

[3] My booklet cover and a couple spreads showing the esthetic of how the rest of the book will follow - again, 3 variations of the cover and inside

[4] Getting started on my fold out map that will show where Jon has traveled in the world for competitions - 3 variations of how I want the map to FOLD and the ESTHETIC.

Monday, May 2– Big deliverables sketched out (booklet of graphs, poster series, fan club) also research, research, research!! Call me brother and get as much information as possible to I know my subject well.

Wed, May 4 – The rest of the deliverables sketched out and tight (T-shirts, flyer, map, quote cards)

Monday, May 9- start to outline sizes and formatting of the designs onto the computer

Wed, May 11- start to design on the computer! Complete the poster series for the campaign

Monday, May 16 – completed booklet of graphs and completed fan club - have it look cohesive to the poster series

Wed, May 18 – completed quote cards, T-shirt, and banner

Monday, May 23 – completed map and have all the deliverables tightened and looking like a unit

Wed, May 25 – ready for presentation!

OBJECTIVE //

For my senior thesis project I’m going to be campaigning for my brother for the 2012 Olympics in London. I will be promoting and building his image as a professional weight lifter and as an incredible individual success story.

The campaign will include information on his lifting achievements and position in the professional weight-lifting world. The campaign will go beyond the numbers that define his professional achievements and will investigate who Jon is and tell his personal story.

This article is so motivational! One of my complaints during my presentation on Monday was how I did not have enough passion. This article is filled with passion and love about and for graphic design and it’s truly inspirational. When Sagmeister is asking the question, “is it possible to touch somebody’s heart through design?” I wanted to scream out YES! I have felt this only a couple times in my life through work I have seen mostly through people I know that TRULY love design and have designed through experiences – not just because it’s their job. Sagmeister talks about “fluff” and how it is “pretty,” but sometimes lacking meaningful. No passion. I think for design to be moving it needs to be about important issues that have a deeper meaning to the designer. I agree with the article in the fact that we have a harder job to connect to the audience because we only have seconds, unlike movies or music.

Another part of the article that inspired me was the meaning of art. What is art? Is graphic design even art? Brian Eno states, “not to think of art works as objects, but as triggers for experiences.” It is an experience, not a quality. Something might be art to one person but not the other. I think this topic plays a huge role in my thesis project because I want it to be a whole “experience.” I would like my project to touch someone’s heart; I don’t care about everyone, but at least one person. I wan to tell a story of my brother whom I love and whom I’m extremely proud of. I hope that even if it doesn’t touch someone in my class it will touch myself, or even better, my brother.

Passion and guts Is what I need to crank up and explode with for my project. This article was PERFECT for my motivation and to rejuvenate my passion. I WANT TO MOVE SOME PEOPLE WITH MY CRAZY PASSIONFUL DESIGN!!

I have always been interested in the business and marketing side of graphic design. I would like to sell a product and work with people in a community based corporation. I think teammate work is crucial in any kind of design and I would love to market a product that I loved and would be proud of. I am Into athletics and sports which has been a huge part of my life along with athletic fashion (athletic gear). I LOVE what Nike does, their graphics plus their attire. For my second option of my thesis I would want to market sports clothes or market something that has to do with fashion and sports combined. My thoughts are not fully developed on this topic yet, but it’s two things I’m passionate about and what enjoy developing.
